What makes KING Hoops different?

KING Hoops is more than an AAU basketball program; we are a nonprofit youth development organization that uses basketball as a vehicle to help young people reach their full potential. While we pride ourselves on providing high-level coaching and competition, our mission extends far beyond wins and losses. We are committed to developing the whole student-athlete through meaningful relationships, mentorship, and opportunities that prepare young people to succeed both on and off the court.

Who do we serve?

KING Hoops competitive AAU teams serve boys ages 11-18 in New York City and surrounding areas. Clinic programs serve a wide range of boys and girls depending on the offering. Check out our program page (Linked) for our current offerings.

How do I join?

KING Hoops hosts tryouts 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) for our competitive AAU teams. Clinics and other offerings are offered throughout the year, many free of cost and open to the public. You can follow our Instagram account for all information related to tryouts.

What does the AAU program include?

The program includes weekly practices, coaching and mentorship from our highly qualified and trained coaching staff, tournaments, weekly academic and life-skills sessions, and college and career development guidance. KING Hoops also offers travel options to tournaments.

Is financial assistance available?

Accepted Answer

Yes! KING Hoops is a fee-for-service organization; however, all participants are welcome to apply for financial assistance. Over 75% of participants receive financial assistance. We believe talent is equally distributed amongst all New Yorkers, but opportunity is not. We strive to bridge the opportunity gap through our extensive scholarship program.

How does KING Hoops prepare athletes for college and life?

Our coaches and staff build lasting relationships with every student-athlete, serving as trusted mentors and positive role models throughout their journey. Beyond basketball, KING Hoops provides academic support, college and career guidance, life-skills programming, leadership development, and mentorship to help athletes grow as students, leaders, and young adults. Our goal is to ensure every participant leaves our program with the tools, confidence, and support to succeed long after their playing days are over.

Where are practices held?

Our practices are held in centrally located schools around New York City including East Harlem and Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan. Practice locations may vary by team and season.

Who are our coaches?

Our coaching staff is made up of experienced coaches, current high school coaches, former collegiate and professional players, and mentors who reflect the diverse communities we serve. Many of our coaches have been with KING Hoops since our founding in 2016, providing consistency and building lasting relationships with our athletes. Above all, they are committed to developing young people both on and off the court.
